Cerkno Cup has been one of the first traditional multi-day competitions in Slovenia. It started in 1990, organized by Orientacijski klub Cerkno. It was organized every year until year 2000 and from then every second year. Organizing club has been joined with orienteers from nearby Idrija and is today known as Orientacijski klub Azimut, one of the biggest and most successful slovenian clubs.

Cerkno Cup has helped developing the club and orienteering in Slovenia and has provided interesting maps firstly around Cerkno (continental, steep, partly alpine terrain) and then later towards Idrija, Godovič and Logatec (extreme technical karst maps).

One day of Cerkno Cup was always a WRE event since IOF introduced this type of competitions.
